Hitting the roads in 2021, this model came in 4 trims. These trims are Select, California Route 1, Premium, and GT trims. The First Edition trim was also available at launch, but had a limited run.
It also comes with two battery pack sizes, as well three power outputs. The 68 kWh battery pack comes with 266-horsepower, and a range of 230 miles, while the 88 kWh extended battery pack has a range of 300 miles, and 290 horsepower.
A dual-motor all-wheel-drive version is offered with the same battery packs, but offering even more power. The 88 kWh battery pack produces 346 horsepower, and has an estimated range of 270 miles.
In a test done by Car and Driver back during its release, they found that they were able to get a range of 304-miles. While “Every Tesla we've tested has failed to hit its EPA range estimate”.
If you’re looking for something fast, you can look for an AWD GT. This came with the 88 kWh battery pack, and produced 480 horsepower. Ford aimed at a 3.8-second 0-60, but in recent years, when properly equipped, you can do 0-60 in 3.3-seconds, as tested by Car and Driver.
Being that this is an EV, charging times need to be kept in mind. In recent years, the Mach-E can charge from 10-80 percent in 32 minutes for short range batteries. This is a 6 minute improvement from earlier models. The long range batteries can charge from 10-80 percent in 36 minutes, being a whole 9 minutes faster than the earlier generations.
Starting with 2024 models, the Mach-E can now access the Tesla Supercharger network. This allows you to charge your vehicle in even more locations.
Being that this model shares the name of one of the most legendary vehicles ever made, it has a lot to live up to. In 2021, it did just that. It was Car and Driver’s 2021 EV of the Year.
This year saw the Mach-E go head to head with some heavy hitters, such as Tesla models, but that didn’t matter. The Mach-E has the Mustang name in its blood, and it wasn’t going down without a fight.
While the interior does have a slight resemblance to some Tesla models, Car and Driver states that “Ford managed to make the cabin design feel fresh without resorting to gimmicks or trying to pass off cost-cutting measures as innovation the way Tesla does.”
This shows the drivers of America that if you want something reliable, and comfortable, Ford is the way to go.
