When this generation was unveiled, it had some tricks up its sleeve. This model features a two-piece tailgate, a bed constructed from carbon fiber, a heads-up display, a rearview mirror backup camera system, and the legendary Denali trim.
This new tailgate is the “Multi-Pro” tailgate, and it has six functions. It not only acts like a traditional tailgate, but also has a load stopper, a full-width step, and a work area. With this tailgate, you’ll be the best equipped at the jobsite.
This generation has three engines to keep an eye out for. The engines are a 5.3L, and a 6.2L V8. If you’re wanting a diesel option, then you’re in luck. This is because some models are equipped with a 3.0L Duramax turbocharged I6.
Another engine that you can keep an eye out for is the 6.6L V8 engine. This makes 445 horsepower, and 910 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to this engine, you can tow up to 35,500-pounds on the 3500HD, but the 2500HD can tow 18,500-pounds.
The most efficient engine of the bunch is the 3.0L V6. This has an EPA rated 26 MPG combined, when paired with the large gas tank, you can get upwards of 600 miles on one tank.
No matter the trim level, you can look for a backup camera system, with some trims coming with an 8-inch infotainment system that comes with phone connectivity, making it easy to connect your preferred navigation app, and see messages. Higher-end trims will come with an even larger screen.
In 2021, the 3500HD saw its max towing capacity go up to 36,000-pounds. While for the 2022 model, the AT4X and Denali Ultimate trims joined the lineup. 2023 also brought a new trim for the 2500HD, this is the ZR2, and ZR2 Bison. Giving this heavy-duty truck some off-road capability.
