Moving on to a generation that you will be more likely to find, this is the third generation. It comes with some great features, much like the most recent generation.
At launch, the Passport came in 4 trims. These were the Sport, EX-L, Touring, and Elite trims. Most trims come standard with FWD, having AWD as an option. The only trim that comes standard with AWD is the Elite.
Much like the fourth generation, this one is powered by a 3.5L V6, but this one gets slightly better mileage. The Passport is able to get 22 MPG combined, getting 429 miles of total range.
While most models you’ll find come with FWD, if you find one that is equipped with the AWD system, you’ll find that it comes with drive settings. These settings are Normal, Sand, Snow, and Mud.
Thanks to the different drivetrains, you’ll be treated to different ground clearance heights. The FWD comes with 7.5-inches of clearance, while the AWD has 8.1-inches of clearance. This makes the AWD even better for off-road enthusiasts.
Like we touched on earlier, the fourth generation does have great cargo space, but so does this generation. With all seats in place, you have access to 41 cu-ft of space, but with the rear seats down you now have 78 cu-ft of space to use.
When the 2021 model year was introduced, so was the new 8-inch touchscreen. This came with phone connectivity, helping make the Passport even greater. The 2022 year model was also a great year for the Passport as it saw the introduction of the TrailSport trim. This comes with all-weather TrailSport-logoed floormats, and all-season tires with a more aggressive tread. This year also saw the removal of the Sport, and Touring trims, leaving the EX-L, TrailSport, and Elite trims. For the 2023 model, the FWD option was completely discontinued, making the Passport solely AWD.
