When it comes to reliability, and dependability, Toyota makes some of the best cars! The used market is no different. The benefit of getting a used model is you know it’ll last all while having a ton of options to pick from. We’ll take a look at what you can expect from the Toyota lineup to see which model will suit your needs.
Key takeaways
- For the first time in 50 years, the Crown is back, and with it comes decent space, and fuel economy.
- The Camry is now a hybrid only model, if you want a regular gas engine, then you’ll need something a bit older.
- The Prius comes with some great mileage that spans across generations, making any model that you find a great option.
The Camry has gone through a change in identity within the past few years, this was done by no longer offering a pure gasoline engine, and making it a hybrid in turn. For the most recent models you’ll find that they come in 4 trims. These are the LE, SE, XLE and XSE.
As mentioned, the engine you’ll find starting in 2025 onward is a 2.5L I4 hybrid. This engine is capable of getting 51 MPG combined, going upwards of 660 miles on one tank. Being that these models will be harder to find, we’ll look at some that you are more likely to find.
On models from 2018-2024, you can find the same hybrid, but also a regular gas powered 2.5L I4, and even a V6 option. For the regular 2.5L I4, you can get 34 MPG combined, able to go up to 530 miles on one tank. The V6 option gives you a little more power at 301 horsepower, making it a great option for those who want something a bit more unique, while remaining practical.
This V6 engine can get you 26 MPG combined, which isn’t the worst on the market, and is surprisingly decent. This engine unlocks a few more trims for you, these are designated with the V6 suffix. The trims you can get from this generation are L, LE, SE, XLE, XSE, XLE V6 and XSE V6, as well as LE, SE and XLE versions of the Camry Hybrid.
Moving on to something that you’re a little more likely to find, there’s the Corolla. This model has the distinction of having a sportier hatchback variant. The Corolla comes in both SE, and XSE trims. If you’re not wanting a hatchback, you can still look for saloon models. These will come in L, LE, and XLE trims.
For the engines from this generation, you have the 2.0L I4 that is equipped with the hatchback variant, and the 1.8L I4 that is equipped with the saloon variant. Models that are equipped with the 2.0l I4 can be found with a manual transmission, giving those who prefer that kind of driving something to look for. The 1.8 L is equipped with a CVT, giving for better fuel economy. Hybrid Corollas are able to get you 52 MPG combined, making it a very solid daily driver, as well as road trip vehicle.
The Crown is one of the most recent additions to the Toyota lineup. While it existed in other markets, this is the first time in 50 years that it comes back to the US. When this model was unveiled, it was a unique model thanks to its sloping roof and a conventional sedan trunk opening.
Thanks to this unique design, you get some pretty good comfort. For the front row, you can enjoy 42.1-inches of legroom, while the rear seat gains access to 38.9-inches of legroom. You also gain 15.2 cu-ft of cargo space.
While this does feature decent space, it does lose out on some mileage that some of its siblings have. With that being said, it still provides more than its competitors. The Crown is able to go up to 41 MPG combined, which is still great.
The Prius entered a new generation in 2022, you might be able to find the LE, XLE, and the Limited trims. This generation comes powered by a 2.0L I4 engine, coming in both plug-in and regular hybrid variants.
If you want something with the most range, the regular hybrid variant takes that title. You will be able to get up to 587 miles. The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) doesn’t fall too far behind, able to get up to 561 miles on one tank.
If you want something from the generation before with the most range, then you can look for a model that is equipped with a 1.8L I4. These were around from 2016-2022 and came with an EPA rated 56 MPG combined. This allows you to get 633 miles on one tank.
